Maintenance
and Repair

- The
Authority's maintenance call center
can be reached at (804) 780-8700,
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- The
Maintenance Department maintains
grounds and structures; plumbing,
electrical and heating systems;
and water, gas, and sewers that
serve all RRHA public housing
units. The department responds
to approximately 30,000 maintenance
requests from tenants each year
and maintains more than 200 acres
of grass and 30 miles of gas and
water lines.

Preventive
Maintenance Program
|
- Once
per year, the Maintenance Department's
staff carefully inspects each
housing unit and each unit's heating
system, makes preventive maintenance
checks, services equipment and
makes repairs.
|
Modernization
Program
|
- Annual
modernization expenditures average
$6 million per year. Created in
accordance with building codes,
the Modernization Program modernizes
and remodels public housing developments.
- Through
this program, RRHA has installed
energy-saving measures such as
insulation, now boiler systems,
new energy-efficient lighting,
water-saving devices, and improved
centralized heating plants.
- Modernization
of units has included landscaping;
installation of storm doors, entrance
doors, windows and new roofs;
and the remodeling of kitchens
(including appliances) and bathrooms.
