The Southern Barton Heights Conservation Areas
is located in the north side of Richmond as
is generally bounded by Wickman and Dove Streets
to the north, Fritz Street to the south. Richmond-Henrico
Turnpile to the east and Fendall Avenue to
the west.
In 1994, the City of Richmond completed
a revitalization plan for the area which
proposed the neighborhood to become a conservation
area with RRHA and Neighborhood Housing
Services, cooperating together to implement
rehabilitation of existing homes and new
housing being built in the area. The project
receives CDBG funds and HOME funds to provide
rehabilitation loans.
In 2000, Southern Barton Heights was designated
a 'Neighborhood in Bloom' by the city of
Richmond. Through this efforts Southern
Barton Heights and its partners, including
the Southern Barton Heights Community Civic
Association are continuing to move the neighborhood
forward, to revitalize this beautiful neighborhood.
