Resident Employment Opportunities Meeting Employers' Needs

The Richmond Business and Employment Development Corporation (RBEDC) is a private, non-profit corporation created to offer residents of public housing the training and skills necessary to become entrepreneurs. In addition, RBEDC provides training, job placement, and job retention services to residents who are employed with the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), as well as those employed with other businesses.

RBEDC also offers local employers a pool of employees who are trained andready to work.

Established in 1991 with a grant from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (Virginia HUD office), RBEDC has worked to provide long-term solutions to the problem of acute unemployment in Richmond's public housing community. Tapping the resourcefulness and initiative of its residents, RBEDC helps low-income individuals develop occupational skills. The corporation is an umbrella organization, designed to be an incubator firm for smaller, independent resident-owned companies.

- Through RBEDC more than 200 residents have acquired business,
entrepreneurial and vocational skills.
- The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (Virginia HUD office) recognized RBEDC with a Performance Award.
- RBEDC received a Human Service Award from the Southeast Regional Council of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
