Housing
Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly
Section 8) provides rental assistance to
qualified low-income families in the private
rental market. RRHA forms partnerships with
landlords to provide quality housing throughout
the city
of Richmond and metro Richmond areas.
Through the Housing Choice Program families
can secure quality housing in the neighborhood
of their choice.
Program participants locate apartments,
duplexes and single-family dwellings which
RRHA inspects. Participating families may
pay up to 40 percent of their income for
rent and utility expenses and the U.S
Department of Housing and Urban Development
(Virginia
HUD office) subsidizes the
amount.
RRHA performs annual inspections of Housing
Choice subsidized units to ensure that they
meet federal standards.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a
three-way partnership between the HCVP participant,
RRHA and the owner or landlord of the housing
unit.
