A MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY FROM THE RICHMOND
REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY AND THE
CITY OF RICHMOND
RRHA, City of Richmond and Richmond
Police Department partner to enhance safety
in public housing communities
To the Richmond Community:
The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing
Authority (RRHA) has always been committed
to providing our public housing residents
with a safe and healthy living environment.
Families should feel protected in and around
their homes. Children must have a place
to play without fear. In order to stand
behind our commitment to your security and
to enhance our public safety and crime prevention
operations, RRHA, the City of Richmond and
the Richmond Police Department will again
enforce the 'No Trespassing' Policy, beginning
November 17, 2003.
The No Trespassing Policy and privatized
streets program was created through a partnership
between RRHA, the City of Richmond, the
Richmond Police Department and public housing
residents to help RRHA ensure safe neighborhoods
for public housing families. The No Trespassing
Policy and street privatization resulted
in the City of Richmond deeding certain
interior streets and sidewalks as private
property in Creighton Court, Hillside Court,
Whitcomb Court, Afton Avenue Apartments
and Raven Street in Mosby Court. Therefore,
only lawfully residing residents or persons
visiting with lawful social and business
reasons are allowed on that street.
RRHA welcomes you to visit its neighborhoods.
This welcome extends not only to lawful
guests of residents, but to individuals
or groups conducting lawful business on
RRHA properties. However, if you have been
specifically told by RRHA or the Richmond
Police Department that you are banned from
RRHA property, then you cannot visit. If
you do, you will be considered a trespasser
and will be prosecuted as such. We feel
this policy protects families from criminal
and unsafe activities in the community.
As we prepare to reinstate this policy,
RRHA has arranged the following for the
community: New 'No Trespassing' signs will
be placed on the privatized streets of the
mentioned RRHA communities; a brochure,
Important Information Regarding the RRHA
Trespassing Policy, is available; a map
of the community that details the privatized
streets and sidewalks will be available
in the Housing Management Office and RRHA
headquarters at 901 Chamberlayne Parkway.
Please know that it is important for our
families and the community to be aware that
the enforcement of this policy is an important
public safety tool for RRHA, which helps
to ensure the protection of families that
live within public housing communities.
We thank you for your continued cooperation
and support. If you would like additional
information regarding the Trespassing Policy
please contact us at (804) 780-4344 or e-mail
us at info@rrha.state.va.us.
